Creative Gift Idea {for aspiring bakers}
Life is hard; food doesn't have to be #117 [vol5, 12.1]
Maybe someone on your list would enjoy a creative gift. ++ my favorite kind ++
After a recent bread class, one student put together a grouping of essential items to make bread as a gift for her newlywed daughter.
From her genius idea, I gave a ‘tween boy a copy of Alexandra Stafford’s Bread Toast Crumbs book and a glass bowl to bake the bread. Would be a great gift for Dad, Grandma, your sister or a soon to be high school graduate…
This bread bakes in a bowl and is so good. And easy. This is the bread I used in Thanksgiving stuffing. Please make it soon!

Bare Minimum Gift
- Glass bowls (4c or 1.5qt) or 4c Pyrex measuring cup to bake the bread. Also look at thrift stores. Recipe makes 2 loaves simultaneously.
- Print the recipe for “My Mother’s Peasant Bread: The Best Easiest Bread You Will Ever Make”
- A digital scale isn’t 💯 necessary but they’re available for about $10. I use a scale almost daily, if not multiple times a day. When baking with a scale I use fewer dishes and it’s faster to weigh ingredients.
Extra Deluxe Gift Set
- beeswax wrap for bread storage
- high mineral sea salt like BajaGold and a cute salt bowl
- larger container for dough; Cambro brand sometimes found at Sams, definitely Amazon or a restaurant supply store
- an instant read thermometer. I don’t use it for this recipe but I do for sourdough. Bread is done at 200*.
- (Not pictured) instant yeast, organic unbleached all-purpose flour, Danish dough whisk - two for $10!, and Norwex netted cloths are fabulous for removing dough and flour from any surface.

Julie! You are too much. Thank you for all of this :) I used to sell kits on my website that included 2 bowls, a scale, a GIR spatula, and a cloth bowl cover, but I had to stop bc it was too hard managing all of the inventory. I love that you've outlined a DIY peasant bread kit. Thank you for all you do :)
