This week in my kitchen: It's becoming difficult to find yeast in the grocery store and I have more time than ever to bake. Yesterday I successfully made dinner rolls with half the amount of yeast. Just know you'll need a much longer rise time -- as in hours longer. A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
A recipe to share: instant pot breakkie or lunch or dinner on the go when you have somewhere to go.
What I'm reading: Totally engrossed in Pat Conroy's Beach Music (currently free audio!). It's a story of a man whose wife commits suicide in South Carolina. He retreats to Rome with his 2yo daughter after an ugly custody battle with his wife's parents. If you're a Southerner, been to Italy (or want to go), or came from a dysfunctional family, you'll be sucked into Conroy's writing.
I took a break from Beach Music because Where the Crawdads Sing (also free audio book) became available from my library as an ebook and I only have a few more days to read it. I'm 30% through the book and completely hooked. I have a feeling it will make me cry the ugly cry before we say goodbye.
On Instagram: Just finished a series on fats in my kitchen. At the risk of sounding needy, I appreciate when you like and comment on my posts because it helps other people find me.
Toilet paper crisis was averted last week: I got two packages for my birthday! My husband pointed me to this article about reasons for the toilet paper shortage.
I love my people but I can't listen to noise all day -- or podcasts or even music for that matter. Ever thought of yourself as highly sensitive? I'm not talking about getting your feelings hurt easily. I mean, does the bombardment of your senses make you want to retreat to your bedroom and lock the door? This article about being a highly sensitive person could help you feel less crazy during this time of being with family during social isolation.
This Easter will certainly be one for the books. I don't have a special meal planned. One thing is certain, we will sit around the table and give thanks for each other and the work that is finished because of Jesus' self denial and sacrificial love.
Question for you: Ideas for the the name of this newsletter? Someone recommended Food Majors as a play off my last name and also the fact that people I'm writing to are interested in food as well. Would love to hear your ideas...
