If covid-19 has taught us anything, it’s that we long for connection. The dinner table (or breakfast or lunch!) is one place for that. In the last months, I have tried to be intentional about not eating on the go. And always sitting at the table.
It’s easier for our family to gather for dinner but usually breakfast and lunch are a bit more willy-nilly-on-your-own. And so, with my resolve to stop eating standing up or on the go, I invite one or more of my children to join me. Not only does this mean they are more likely to eat a well balanced meal, it means I am not casually shoving unwanted calories in my face.
Part of my motivation as I’m doing the hard work of planning and preparing food is remembering that I’m creating a canvas for connection. Food is a natural gatherer of people. When we sit for a meal, we connect on many levels.
Last Twenty Weeks of 2020
Have you had the thought, “I can’t wait to get this year over!” Instead of riding it out, here’s a way to redeem the time: start Twenty-in-2020.
What is 20 in 2020?
It’s a challenge for families to memorize 20 Bible verses in 2020.
Seeds Family Worship makes it easy. The Bible verses are set to music. Here’s a free Spotify playlist already created for you to play in the car or anytime.
With each verse, there are 4 story based devotions with at least one question to jump start the conversation. My husband shares how our family has used 20 in 2020 on the FamilyLife Today podcast with songwriter Jason Hauser. Spoiler: We listen to the music while we set the table, get ready for school, or in the car. He reads the devotions in the first minutes after we sit at the table. It’s a fun 2-day interview about the 20 in 2020 project. Highly recommend a listen.
Here on iTunes or here on Spotify.

As a mom, I like that we are being intentional about Scripture memory. But it doesn’t feel like one.more.thing. Listening to music is already a part of our day. And once we all have the same songs/Scriptures memorized it gives an easy point of reference - especially in the hard times. Definitely in the times when I’m like, “Lord, I have no idea what to say to this child…” Songs are sticky. Scripture doesn’t return void (Isaiah 55:11).
Free Shipping Code
Last week I shared a new natural deodorant that a friend in my neighborhood makes and sells on etsy. I bought some and really like it. I also really liked her magnesium body butter.
Shipping is free on orders over $35. If you’re in Little Rock, she’s offered a free shipping code for orders UNDER $35: LRFREESHIPPING.
Will you 20 in 2020?
My husband and Jason Hauser recorded the interview on FamilyLife Today months ago. Somewhere along the way, they realized that the show would be aired this week - the start of the last 20 weeks of 2020.
Maybe it feels overwhelming to commit to all 20 weeks. So what’s a baby step that feels easy? Listen to the playlist on Spotify? Read one devotion?
If you try any of it, please let me know. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
