COFFEE: Have you tried the make-at-home specialty coffee that has taken the internet by storm since COVID-19? For fun, I bought a jar of instant coffee, wrote out instructions and added these things to my teenager’s Easter goodies. Needless to say he liked it and created a video. It’s posted here. If you don’t have instant coffee but do have Starbucks VIA instant packets, you can substitute one packet for one 1 tablespoon of instant coffee. If you like Frappuccinos, you are sure to like this.
YEAST: Difficulty finding baker’s yeast? You’re not alone. There has been an explosion of home bakers during this pandemic. If you get your hands on yeast, I highly recommend this super easy bread recipe. I’ve been a fan of Zoe for years and have recently found her account on Instagram. She has the loveliest stories and very helpful LIVE videos.
AROUND THE TABLE: It is our family’s practice to “car wash” a person on their birthday. That is, we all take turns using generous vocabulary to speak life into the birthday person. My husband decided recently that we would encourage one another just because we had the extra time at the table. Highly recommended. Even the littlest can think of something to say to bless their siblings. It may feel a little awkward at first but just go for it! Call it “time of encouragement.” You could even start by assigning the person on your right as the one you’ll bless.
ZOOM: Everyone’s doing it, and most likely you are too. Before the pandemic, I thought of teaching classes via Zoom but was encouraged to find a platform that could host classes in a way that students could participate when they had time. Welp, we all have time on our hands now.
Next Thursday, April 23, at 7pm Central time: Zoom Cast Iron Class.
Never used cast iron? Used cast iron but need a hefty dose of confidence? Want your teen to learn to cook but don’t have the patience to teach them? Join me to learn tips and tricks for cooking, cleaning, and care of cast iron. It’s a versatile and non-toxic tool that I reach for frequently in the kitchen.
You’ll receive an 8 page guide to download + a grocery list so we can cook together. This is not a cooking class, per se. We will cook for the sake of understanding technique. Also, the restoration of rusty skillets is beyond the scope of this class.
You don’t have to possess cast iron to take the class. However, you can purchase a new Lodge that has been pre-seasoned at Kroger, WalMart, and Amazon.
Email me to reserve your spot: luvmyhub@gmail.com. Since it’s my first class on Zoom, I am limiting the class size. Cost is $35 - payment through Venmo, Paypal or mail a check.
Happy spring is here!
