Oh, I'm actually in the middle of listening to this. It's a topic I have thought about often. The general church food offerings are very sad. I have been a part of several church small groups with crunchy people and it's always a good time to share and discuss food choices.

I love the idea of a fitness or wellness ministry. It’s so true—seems like every church function includes the worst possible food we can think of to offer. I’d love to learn more about your journey/experience cooking for Wednesday night church. Have you shared about that in the past?

Hi Johanna, I don’t think I’ve written specifically on my journey and experience cooking for Wednesday night suppers. Maybe I should write more.

My training started a few years ago when I thought I could make money cooking for hire. I made real food meals and people picked up at my door once a week. It was a lot of work for not enough money (must account for shopping time and DISHES!). I learned a lot about bulk cooking for 60. Cooking for 100 and serving it HOT is a whole new skill level.

Three years ago we moved states. My husband is now pastor at the church where he grew up & his parents are still here too! I think with his support + some of the ladies who volunteered in the past have had to step away for various reasons made it easier for me to step in & make changes. It is a lot of work — easily 20 hours a week of volunteer time.

Thanks for hanging in there with offering no desserts at church. Desserts are so tempting for people who are trying to eat better. Offering fruit helps retrain people’s expectations! We expect fruit now and would be disappointed if it weren’t offered!

There are plenty of places that people can get desserts if they feel that they have to have them!

Thanks Barbara. I’m one of those people who don’t need dessert UNTIL I SEE IT! If my skin was thin I’d be reconsidering this experiment. But I’m quite resilient. Stubborn?!
