Nutritious (& Yum) Super Bowl Snacks
I’ve not yet decided what appetizer(s) I’m taking to the Superbowl party. Here’s a list I’ll choose from. My focus was more nutrients, protein and not fussy/time consuming.
From my website:
Meat & Cheese Dip (no Velveeta with Rotel) 4 Dips for Dinner and a gingerbread recipe.
Reuben Dip - gluten free
Make cheeseburger bites in a muffin tin. (Gluten free if using GF oats.)
Want something different and into parmesan, breadcrumbs, butter, eggs and a bit of spinach? Try these make ahead spinach balls.
These smashed potatoes would be excellent small bites with sour cream, green onions, and bacon sprinkled on top.
No yeast, pizza rolls. Sure to please the crowd.
Granola Bar Cookies - these are better for us than packaged granola bars, also perfect for a boost of protein on the go
From others:
hummus / guac from the store
There’s always a bean dip: hot or cold. Simply layer refried beans sprinkled with taco seasonings, sour cream then top with cheese. Get fancy with salsa or tomatoes, guac, scallions or olives.
deviled eggs
charcuterie board - meats, nuts, cheeses, olives, fruit, veg
Buffalo Chicken Dip - gluten free
meatballs (from Costco) but you could totally make your own. Here’s a recipe I love with a Mediterranean twist.
twice baked potatoes - gluten free
Oh Hamish Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar - makes a giant amount. Super easy and crowd pleaser with ingredients you probably have in the pantry. (GF if using GF oats.)
Use what you got oatmeal jam bar - I love with tart cherry jam from Costco
Remember
Buy organic tortilla chips when possible. A crazy percentage (95%+) of corn grown worldwide is genetically modified (which means not only are the genetics changed but also it is sprayed with really bad chemicals for humans and the environment). Other top GMO foods are: soy (to include canola/veg oil) and white sugar (not cane sugar - look for the words cane sugar when buying white sugar).
Think outside the box - instead of buying crackers made with industrial inflammatory oils and wheat sprayed with gut destroying glyphosate, what else could you use besides crackers?
Alexandra’s Mother’s No-Knead Peasant Bread that bakes in a bowl is a fam fav. [Unrelated but from her site is this Moist Applesauce Bundt Cake that is so yum you might slap yourself.]
Even though wheat and oats are not GMO, they are usually sprayed with glyphosate (gut destroying chemical). I try to buy organic flour, oats, and bread for this reason. When labeled organic, it is not sprayed with toxic chemicals nor is is genetically modified.
Offer fresh fruit and veggies. We all need more fiber. It’s my experience that if I set it out people will eat it. If it stays in the fridge, no one will eat it. Fruit and veggies fill us up and keep us full better than packaged snacks.

Life is hard; food doesn’t have to be.

PS - tried either of these crowd pleaser dinner recipes a friend texted me?
